Ages 8-9

Our U10 program (ages 8-9) for skiers and riders continues to build on the foundations established in the U8 program. Training includes Saturday and Sunday during the winter, with optional training on Fridays. Additional weekdays are also offered during holiday breaks.

This program continues to focus on the foundational techniques and skills needed to become an expert skier or rider and allows athletes to begin to move towards a more specialized program in Alpine, Freeride, or Freeski if their skill level meets minimum requirements for the discipline. We encourage most athletes at this age to select the Alpine program, as the skill development in this discipline builds the appropriate foundation for other disciplines. Skiers or riders who are ready to specialize in a discipline other than Alpine may do so with coach approval.

Our coaches create a fun environment for their teams and work to develop a love of the outdoors and winter sports while modeling how to approach challenging situations with grit, grace, and courage, the core characteristics of SBA athletes.

This program follows the guidelines of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard athlete development model with training 2-3 days per week. Athletes will focus on skier/rider safety, technical ability, balance, and coordination with an emphasis mileage. Groups are formed based on age and ability.

Alpine athletes will have a focus on gate training in our race arena. U10 athletes are encouraged to enter Far West races as directed by their coaches. Freeride and Freeski athletes will focus on skill development, and coaches will recommend appropriate competitions based on age and ability.
