Dear Sugar Bowl Academy Community,

It has been another week of strong results for Sugar Bowl Academy, highlighted by a couple of podium sweeps! We are confident our momentum will continue as we close out this season. Every day, we see what happens when commitment and opportunity come together, as it did for SBA alumna Aspen McAuley. This week, Aspen showcased her grit, grace, and courage at the 2026 USCSA National Championships, finishing her dominant first-year collegiate season as the national champion in slalom. Her success is an example of what is possible when athletes make the most of meaningful opportunities (video below). SBA’s foundational program for ages 5–9, specialized development for ages 10–11, advanced competition for grades 6–8, and elite competition for grades 9–12, are designed to give opportunities for athletes to reach the top of their sport. Together, they form the path to athletic dreams, academic excellence, and personal growth. To better understand how it all comes together, and why it produces people like Aspen, watch this video featuring 2025 graduate Gordon Crawford-Currie. It captures the spirit of SBA and the intention behind everything we do. We want you to continue to be a part of it. Team registration for 2027 is now open, and if you are beginning to think about the next level, let us know by completing a school inquiry form. We always look forward to learning more about our families as well as sharing the opportunities at Sugar Bowl Academy.

Sincerely,
Stephen
Executive Director

Concussion Awareness

A concussion is a brain injury caused by a blow to the head or body that makes the brain move suddenly. Importantly, an athlete does not need to lose consciousness or have a direct hit to the head for it to be serious.

How certified health care professionals evaluate concussions:

  • Symptom check: Headache, dizziness, nausea, light/noise sensitivity, confusion, mood changes, difficulty concentrating

  • Cognitive exam: Balance, coordination, reaction time, memory

  • Physical exam: Neck pain and range of motion, and eye movement tests, balance, etc.

When in doubt, pull them out. Please reach out to your athletic trainer or coach if you have any questions or concerns.
