Dear Sugar Bowl Academy Community,
The Academy Awards on Wednesday were another reminder of what we accomplished this year. A difficult winter challenged us in many ways. We adjusted, remained focused on our student-athletes, and made the most of available opportunities. My sincerest appreciation to everyone who makes it happen: our student-athletes, our coaches, our teachers, our support staff, our families, and our extended community. It is May, the final month of this school year. We have four weeks to bring full effort to every workout, to lock in on academics, and to continue to do right by others. Let’s apply grit, grace, and courage to everything we do as we finish this school year strong.
Sincerely,
Stephen
Executive Director

Nutrition and Hydration
For all age groups, it's important to emphasize that proper nutrition and hydration play a critical role in the performance, recovery, and injury prevention of ski and snowboard athletes. Cold weather and altitude can suppress thirst, yet fluid losses remain significant due to prolonged exertion, heavy clothing, and increased respiratory demands of sport and altitude. Athletes are encouraged to hydrate consistently throughout the day, not just during time on the mountain, with pale yellow urine serving as a general indicator of adequate hydration.
Balanced meals and snacks that include carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats help sustain energy levels, maintain focus, and support muscle repair. Carbohydrates are particularly important for fueling high-intensity runs and maintaining reaction time, while protein intake following activity aids in recovery and reduces muscle soreness. It is recommended to have simple, practical strategies such as consuming easy-to-digest snacks, drinking fluids at regular breaks, and prioritizing post-activity nutrition to support overall health and optimize performance throughout the ski season. For individualized recommendations reach out to our performance staff who can answer your questions or connect you with a dietician at TFHS.
