Dear Sugar Bowl Academy Community,

We are officially done for the season at Sugar Bowl. As we transition to the off‑season, construction on the new Gondola begins tomorrow, Monday, April 6, along with additional work at the Main Lodge, Village Lodge, and Athlete Zone. It will be a busy off‑season as our home mountain prepares for winter 2027. As construction begins here, SBA athletes still have a few competitions remaining and will be traveling over the next couple of weeks. Students, we return to our off‑snow schedule starting Monday, April 6. All students will start each day at Village Hall at 8:30 am, with breakfast available every weekday. Friday, April 10 is the last day of Quarter 3 and Winter Term, let’s have a solid finish! Parents, we are continually working to provide the best experiences, programs, and services possible. This is the last call to share your feedback on what we are doing well and where we can improve. Please take a few minutes to complete our end‑of‑season survey if you have not already done soon. Looking forward to the week ahead.

Sincerely,
Stephen
Executive Director

Senior Project Survey - Child Allergies

Our SBA seniors all complete a Senior Project as part of their coursework in their final year at SBA. One of our students, Eloise Rogers, is studying allergies in children. Please help her by completing her allergy survey for each of your children. You do not have to be at the school or on the team to participate. Thank you for helping Eloise collect data for her project!

Thank You 2026 Sponsors!

Sugar Bowl Academy had 10 amazing sponsors this season, and we are grateful for their support! The sponsors allow us to provide hoodies and t-shirts to our athletes and staff. Please keep them in mind as you do business in the Truckee Area and the Bay Area, and please tell them thank you for supporting our SBA athletes if you see them in person!

SBA Community Social at RMU

Thank you SBA Community for a fun evening at RMU last weekend! It was wonderful to see our community together, including residential and day students, middle and high school students, coaches, teachers, staff, parents, alumni, and alumni parents. Our community is what makes Sugar Bowl Academy so magical! Interested in serving on SBA Community Committee? More information

Knee Injuries in Skiing: Quick Guide for Parents, Coaches & Kids

Knee injuries, especially to the ACL and MCL, are the most common skiing injuries. They often happen during sudden twists, catching an edge, or awkward landings. Chronic knee injuries, such as PFPS and patellar tendinopathy, are also highly prevalent in our youth skiers.

Common Risk Factors:

  • Fatigue

  • Poor landing or turning mechanics

  • Icy or uneven snow

  • Incorrect binding settings

  • Growth spurts affecting strength/coordination

Prevention Tips:

  • Strengthen quads, hamstrings, hips, and core

  • Do a proper dynamic warm-up

  • Practice safe technique and balanced stance

  • Have bindings checked each season

  • Stop skiing if there’s swelling, instability, or sharp pain

Early evaluation helps athletes recover faster and return to snow safely. Working together, we can keep kids healthy and confident on the mountain.
