Dear Sugar Bowl Academy Community,

As a parent of three athletes that participated on teams for many years, I know what it takes to provide kids an opportunity to participate in winter sports. All the hours on the road, all the trips to the shop for gear, all the flexibility with unpredictable conditions, all the support during competitions, all the early mornings on weekends, and so much more. You make it happen for your kids. Thank you so much for everything you do to make it possible. Athletes, the end of the of season is a good time for heartfelt appreciation. You are able to have experiences most kids will never have, and those experiences will benefit you throughout your life. Give your thanks to your families for making it possible. We have achieved outstanding results throughout the season. Among the recent highlights are Jack Schrady, Porter Sullivan, and Mattias Wilson ranking as the top three U.S. athletes for Slalom for their birth year. Jack is also ranked second for GS and Mattias is second for Super G and first for Downhill. Kiana Swim, at 15 years old, is the IFSA U19 Ski Women champion! Micah Rodarte finished 2nd overall in Freeski Open Class Men, and Oliver Coffey finished 3rd overall in Freeski Breaker Boys. Congratulations to all our athletes. We are eager for more accomplishments next season. Make sure you are a part of it. Team rosters are now 71% full, we are well ahead of last year’s registration pace, and all prices increase at the end of today, April 12. If you have not done so already, register your athlete for 2027.

Sincerely,
Stephen
Executive Director

Knee Injury Reduction Techniques

Key ways to lower ACL/MCL and chronic knee injury risk include proper warm-ups, balanced strength, and safe technique. Athletes benefit most from strong hips, quads, hamstrings, and core, solid landing mechanics, and avoiding back-seat skiing or excessive fatigue.

Emphasize:

  • Dynamic warm-up before every session

  • Hip/knee alignment on turns and landings

  • Strengthening quads/hamstrings/glutes

  • Adequate rest and load management

  • Correct binding settings and regular equipment checks

Consistent coaching on these fundamentals significantly reduces knee injury risk and helps keep athletes healthy all season.
